Before Evandria's Independence
Evandria was a part of Greece throughout its modern history. The local population though heavily influenced by Greece considered itself to be separate from the Greek nation and eventually achieved independence from Greece in the early 1920's.
Greece used Evandria for its convenient location to trade between its surrounding countries like Italy and North Africa. The association with Greece however was not to last and after a decades long independence movement the country finally managed to separate from Greece.
After Reaching Evandria's Independence
Ever since Evandria gained its independence from Greece on the 3rd of August 1922 it has never been the same. Evandria still keeps close ties with Greece and keeps them as a close ally. But after they gained their independence they strived for progress in gender equality, equal pay, a greener environment and its sustainability movement.
Before our country came to what it is today it went through a political terror which lead us onto the path of peacefulness and equality today. In the presidential elections in 1965 a man named Gregor Hampton was elected for president. He drove the country to hit rock bottom. Gregor Hampton ruled from 1965 to 1972 , a period which is now considered the darkest part of Evandria's history. He isolated the country from its traditional allies , drove the economy into the ground, and upset the social structure of the island with a brand of authoritarianism that was not appropriate for Evandria and its people.
Progress only started to really begin in the late 1970's but soon after everything rapidly changed. The wage gap between women and men has disappeared less than 5 years later, and there is cleaner energy being used throughout the entire island. There will always be improvements to make and that is what Evandria cares about most, improvement.
The country has become more peaceful ever since 1922 because of the new laws set out to be respectful and non judgmental towards everyone and their beliefs. There can be harsh punishments if one is being disrespectful to a certain minority or opposition.
This country strives for peacefulness, pride, appreciation and equality as the primary goal of its constitution and the institutions of the island reflect these goals.
